Genomic Solutions for
Other Genetics and Diagnostic Tests

Parentage verification

Find the bulls siring your best calves and heifers and you are dollars ahead. Identify the bulls causing difficult births or not getting the job done, and you will save a bundle. Submit bull DNA and order SeekSire or Igenity testing on your bulls at the same time you send samples from your heifers. If you have already tested your sires at our lab, we will have their records on file.

Veterinary diagnostics

BioPYRN®: Detects a protein from the placenta of a growing fetus. It is effective 28 days or more after breeding. Lactating cows must be 73 days post-calving.

BVD PI: Calves persistently infected with bovine viral diarrhea were infected with BVDV in the womb. They will shed virus their entire life, infecting herds, causing abortions, poor performance and death.

Genetic health and conditions

Horned polled: Gene marker test for cattle that are homozygous polled or carry a recessive gene for horns.

Myostatin: Gene markers for double muscling and to predict effects on birth weight, meat tenderness and both fat.

Coat color: Markers for cattle that are homozygous black or carry a recessive red-coat gene. Only homozygous black cattle will have 100% of black-coat offspring.

Genetic health and abnormalities: Our lab offers tests for many genetic abnormalities that affect certain cattle breeds:

- Alpha-mannosidosis (MAN) - Coat Color Dilutor (DL)
- Arthrogryposis Multiplex (AM) - Idiopathic Epilepsy (IE)
- Contractural Arachnodactyly (CA) - Chondrodysplasia (CHO)
- Neuropathic Hydrocephalus (NH0 - Hypotrychosis (HY)
- Osteopetrosis (OS) - Dun (DN)
- Tibial Hemimelia (TH) - Developmental Duplication (DD)
- Pulmonary Hypoplasia with Anasarca (PHA) - Digital Subluxation (DS)
